The Ontario government is providing $1,078,000 in one-time funding to continue the palliative-focused community support service (CSS) pilot program at Matthews House Hospice, on behalf of Stevenson Memorial Hospital.
The CSS program helps people with life-limiting illnesses remain safely and comfortably at home longer, improving their quality of life and reducing avoidable hospital visits. It is expected to serve approximately 2,650 patients each year.
“Matthews House Hospice provides compassionate care for people facing a life-limiting illness and essential support for their families and caregivers,” said Brian Saunderson, MPP for Simcoe-Grey. “This investment will support its dedicated staff and volunteers as they help more people remain comfortably at home during a deeply personal time.”
Margaret Bachle, C.E.O., Matthews House Hospice, said "the funding is critical to sustaining this essential community program which includes our memory care and dementia day program. Participants rely on the connection and meaningful program activities. We are particularly appreciative of MPP Saunderson’s recognition of the value of community-based care and his ongoing support for Matthews House Hospice.”
Deepak Sharma, President and CEO, SMH, said "Stevenson Memorial Hospital is very appreciative of the compassionate services that Matthews House Hospice provides to our community, including specialized health care programs. Having this care available locally is deeply valued, and the provincial government’s continued support is excellent news for the community we serve."
