Monsignor Ronan expansion needs minor variances to proceed
Posted September 23, 2026
The proposed two-storey addition to Monsignor J.E. Ronan Catholic School in Beeton, is expected to clear its next planning hurdle Thursday night when New Tecumseth's Committee of Adjustment is expected to approve an application for minor variances to the zoning bylaw.
The proposal includes an expansion to the east side (rear) of the existing 25-year-old school building on Lilly Street, which will add four classrooms on the main floor, and an additional four classrooms on the second floor. The existing stairway will be removed and replaced at the north-east corner of the proposed addition.
Ministry funding is $3,942,655 to alleviate the current overcrowding of the classrooms, and will allow for additional student enrolment, which is anticipated to be over 700 students by the year 2034.
The proposed addition requires relief from the following provisions of the Town of New Tecumseth Zoning By-law 2021-128:
relief from Section 2.14.1a)ii) to allow the expansion of a legal non-complying use that will increase current non-compliance; relief from Section 2.38 to permit an addition to the existing structure and the existing structure to be located within 30.0 m of the Environmental Protection Zone; relief from Section 2.19.2a) to recognize the existing non-complying parking spaces on the subject property; and relief from Section 3.2 to recognize the existing non-complying location of a parking area within the front yard.
It's anticipated the new addition would be open for 2027-28 school year.
