Integrity commissioner costs top $63k for New Tecumseth council term

New Tecumseth has spent $63,829.50 on integrity commissioner services related to complaints and inquiries involving council members, residents and municipal staff during the current council term, according to a report presented to council Aug. 24.

The costs were provided by Aird & Berlis LLP, which serves as the town’s integrity commissioner, following a June council request for a detailed breakdown of spending from 2022 through 2026.

The largest annual bill was $19,288.50 in 2023, followed by $15,835.50 in 2025, $15,802 in 2024, $10,925 in 2026 through May 15, and $1,978.50 in 2022.

Resident complaints and applications accounted for the largest share, totalling $38,398 over the five years. Costs included $703.50 in 2022, $10,749 in 2023, $1,825 in 2024, $15,175.50 in 2025 and $9,945 in 2026.

Complaints or applications made by council members totalled $24,696.50, while advice to town staff on all matters cost $17,782.50.

The report notes the figures do not include written advice provided to council and board members or education and training.​
