Municipal, school board nominations period in home stretch

Anyone considering running for municipal or school board office has until this Friday (Aug 21) to register or wait until 2030 for the next opportunity.

​

In New Tecumseth, at this post, there are at least two candidates in each of the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and six of seven Wards. Only Ward 1 would be acclaimed if the election were held today.

The Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and five Wards in Adjala-Tosorontio all have at least two candidates at this post.

In Essa Township, at this post, there is only a race for Mayor with two candidates. The Deputy Mayor, and three Wards would be won by acclamation.

​

On the public and separate school board scene, there would be acclamations in all but New Tecumseth public trustee, which has yet to record a candidate.

To register, candidates must submit a nomination form with a minimum of 25 signatures from qualified electors. The fee to run for Mayor is $200 while the other seats are $100. The fees are refundable after the election depending on the number of votes received.
