Connecting link road improvements underway in Alliston

Over $3 million in road improvements in Alliston via the provincial government's connecting links program, will get underway in earnest this week which will impact traffic from Industrial Parkway to the east, to Young Street to the west, over the next two months barring delays.

 

A connecting link is a designated municipal road or bridge that connects two ends of a provincial highway through a community or to an international border crossing. In this case, the link through Alliston is Highway 89.  New Tecumseth will receive $2.975 million for road improvements to sections of Victoria, King, and Young Street.

Fermar Paving Ltd., on behalf of the Town, will be completing resurfacing work on:

• Victoria Street from Industrial Road to King Street North

• King Street from Victoria Street West to Young Street

• Young Street from King Street South to 208 Young Street.

This project will:

• Improve road conditions and driving comfort

• Enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility

• Upgrade select sidewalks to current accessibility standards

• Repair aging infrastructure

• Extend the lifespan of the roadway network​

 

The Town and contractor will work to minimize disruptions throughout construction.

• One lane of traffic will remain open during working hours.

• Two lanes of traffic will be available during non-working hours.

• Safe pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the project.

• Local access to homes and businesses will be maintained whenever possible.

• Temporary driveway disruptions may occur and affected property owners will receive advance notice.

• Emergency services access will be maintained at all times.

• To help complete the work safely and efficiently while minimizing impacts to daytime traffic, paving activities will be scheduled overnight.

 

The project is estimated to be completed by the end of September.
